Who We Are
Amapola (Spanish for poppy) is a small family business operated by husband and wife David and Nicky Edwards.
It was while backpacking in early 2002 that David and Nicky discovered the stunning silver mining town of Taxco in the heart of Mexico’s dramatic Sierra Madre mountain range.
As a devotee of Mexican silver jewellery, it wasn’t long before Nicky fell in love with the town and its glorious offerings. Their destination had been Rio de Janeiro, but after traveling on for a while they followed their instincts, returned to Taxco and spent the rest of their money on gorgeous silver jewellery.
On their return to England, Amapola was formed and David and Nicky began to sell their jewellery to contemporary jewellers. Their first retailer was Verve in Wakefield, who continued to stock Amapola’s jewellery until the owners retired in 2015.
